moonflower (i thought we were)

from the Night is Sweet and Calming by Biddy Fox

/

lyrics

stubbornly solemn under three soft satellites
suckling sweet silver while wind gathers the hot night
together in seven rows to her everything
is genuine it's childlike get herself killed a ring

on her sewing sweaty finger a chokehold on her soul

the optimists in us both died bloody deaths by
dull disembowelment on a dark days dawn and i
watched the shards of glass tumble down in rosy glint
i thought we were smarter than this

but there was some fluke in the lilys biology
that let it bloom much brighter under alien sky
and no one could figure out why
